Which program accessing file




















Sometimes you may want to open a file in a different application without changing the default. For example, you may want to open a photo with Microsoft Paint to crop or resize it. You may prefer to change the default application for certain types of files so they'll always open in the new app when you double-click them. For example, you may want your photos to always open in Windows Photo Viewer instead of the Photos application.

I may have done something incorrectly. The program I used to have would let you run whatever you were running and then give you a text file with a list of all files and paths accessed. Dang I wish I could remember what it was. Was it Sysinternals Filemon, by any chance? Filemon no longer exists since it was combined with Regmon into Process Monitor.

To get the process holding those folder or file, we can use these two utilities: Resource Monitor Process Explorer. For Windows 7 and above, you can use the built-in Resource Monitor. Open Resource Monitor, which can be found By searching for resmon. Open Process Explorer running as "administrator" by running procexp. Type in the name of the locked file or other file of interest in the Search dialog box, then click "Search".
